Meet the Team: Team w0w

2016-11-25

Welcome to CFS 2016! Please give a brief introduction of your team to the global CF Fans!
Team w0w was formed in early 2015 and attended their first LAN event in California for WCA NA. After an upsetting defeat by Carbon in the finals, they went on to also place 3rd in CFS 2015 qualifier, a devastating loss for a team expected to win the entire event.
The team is a very young team that has an aggressive play style bringing teams to their knees. Although the team is young, the team is made up of former ACE Gaming players, AYRIN and Req who are Crossfire veterans. To finish the lineup we have zlj as one of the top entry fraggers, coda as an indispensable support player and our youngest but solid clutcher, michaeldrk. The team has their eyes set on becoming world champions.

Congratulations in winning the CFS 2016 NF! How do you feel in participating the GF?
As a team, we are ecstatic to be able to compete in the global finals in China. We are a team that has competed in last year's CFS qualifier and sadly, fell short in the end placing 3rd. To be able to represent Crossfire North America on the international stage is an honor for all of us and we hope we can take the #1 place this year.

How do you see the regional CF scene in Na this year?
Crossfire North America has been really been picking up in pace especially in 2015 and 2016. This is credited to the GM's and Moderators of z8games, they have been more open and supportive of the competitive side, and really have been taking in constructive criticism by the community. We believe moving forward, Crossfire North America will continue to thrive and become much larger in the world scene.

What was the most difficult moment your team faced during the NF? How did you get over the trouble?
The most difficult moment we faced during the NF was when we played against ANIXIA in the seminfinals. After winning the first map and losing the second, it all came down to the third map -- Ankara. We were in a tough situation when we were down 2-4, with 3 rounds left int he half. At this moment, we decided to call a time-out to relax ourselves and think about how to win the remaining rounds. After the time-out, we won the last 3 rounds in a row due to our composure as a team.

What NA teams you were fearing or considered as your main competitors?
The team came together to play in the Crossfire Competitive League hosted by z8games at the start of August, and that time, Carbon will still the dominating force. We thought Carbon would be the team to play in the National Finals as the top competitor but they disbanded after numerous losses in CFCL. We thought instinct would be stronger because they were the only team giving us troubles in scrimmages leading up to the event but we feel like they under performed in the national final.

Please give us a brief history of your team. Any roster changes since the team’s foundation? If so, how have they influenced the atmosphere and teamwork of your team?
Our roster has remained the same since May of 2015. Our only change to the roster would be the addition of a substitute player, supamen.

Who is the leader of your team? What is his main role as a team leader?
AYRIN is the in-game leader of the team, with his main role being an entry fragger/secondary lurker.
Being the most experienced player of the team, he is able to provide us with the insight and tactics in order to win. He is also a very energetic individual that raises the overall energy of the team, which creates momentum for us.

Can you describe your teamwork style or strategy that differentiates your team from others?
Our team strategy is a loose-aggressive playstyle. This playstyle allows us to surprise the opoonents and catch them off guard. While other team play extremely passively

What did you do to improve your teamwork? Any special way of practicing CROSSFIRE as a team?
The team analyzes replays from international tournaments in order to improve our game play. Many times the team will learn many defensive setups and flash-bang positions from other teams and re-create them  into our own style. A typical practice involves sitting in a room for a couple hours, and talking about what strategies and counters are possible, and going back and forth, through a debate style argument to figure out the best strategies for our team.

Which region’s team are you looking forward to face against? Any reasons for it?
We are looking forward to beat the Chinese team, as our goal is to be the first team in Crossfire history to dethrone the Chineses domination over the game.

What do you believe NA teams need to compete and win against other global and Chinese teams?
Teams need to stay together for longer time periods instead of constantly remaking teams with new players after loses.

Of course your team’s goal will be winning the CFS 2016 GF. Besides that do you have any other expectations or goals you want to achieve?
We expect to learn more about the culture of the game in different countries but also the players from around the world. Each team has their own story and from previous experiences, there are many interesting characters that will make this trip exciting.

What do you think your team needs to work in the most when preparing for the GF?
The play style from the South East Asian teams are very different from North America and Europe, we will be particularly looking at their play styles and how we can compete with them.

Any last words to the global fans?
Get ready to be w0wed!
